Annual Maintenance on Polderbaan Runway at Schiphol

14 Oct 2025 By travelandtourworld

Annual Maintenance on Polderbaan Runway at Schiphol

From the thirteenth to the twenty-fourth of October twenty twenty-five, Schiphol Airport is performing its annual scheduled maintenance on the Polderbaan Runway and Also during this time, considerable improvements on C Taxiway will be completed. Polderbaan will be closed during this time and will be replaced with other runways for flight operations.

From October 13 to 24, the Polderbaan Runway will be unavailable for flights. Aircraft that would normally use this runway will be redirected to other runways, primarily the Zwanenburgbaan and Buitenveldertbaan. At night, flights will predominantly use the Zwanenburgbaan Runway.

Maintenance on the Polderbaan Runway is essential to keep the runway in top condition. This year, repairs to the asphalt and runway markings will take place, alongside an inspection of the electrical systems and cables. Additionally, the stormwater drainage system will be cleaned, grass areas mowed, and lighting systems inspected and replaced where necessary.

Simultaneously, Taxiway C will undergo crucial repairs, including replacing two layers of asphalt and addressing any deeper layers that need attention. Improvements to the drainage system will ensure efficient rainwater runoff. The lighting system on the taxiway will also be upgraded, with energy-efficient LED lights replacing the old halogen lamps.

Following the closure of the Polderbaan, maintenance work will move to the Zwanenburgbaan Runway from October 27 to November 4, 2025. This maintenance will be carried out alongside ongoing repairs on Taxiway C.

With the Polderbaan out of service, air traffic will be rerouted to alternative runways, which may result in more aircraft flying over the areas that fall under the flight paths of these runways. Depending on wind conditions, the Schiphol-Oostbaan Runway may also be used during this time. This is expected to increase aircraft noise for local residents, particularly during the night when more flights will utilize the Zwanenburgbaan.

To minimize disruptions, Schiphol ensures that maintenance is completed as efficiently as possible. The airport aims to balance the need for repairs with a minimal impact on air traffic and the local community.

For passengers, the key change will be the use of alternative runways. This may lead to slight delays in flights, depending on air traffic management. It is advisable to check flight details in advance, as changes to flight schedules could occur due to the adjusted runway usage.

Schiphol remains committed to keeping its neighbors informed throughout the maintenance period. Local residents can find regular updates about runway usage and expected air traffic on the Schiphol website and through the Local Community Contact Centre (BAS). The BAS website provides information on air traffic and also serves as the main point of contact for any concerns or complaints related to air traffic noise or flight schedules.

The Notifly app allows residents to track real-time air traffic in their area, ensuring they are kept up-to-date on developments. Additionally, Schiphol offers a newsletter for local communities that highlights important updates, including expected flight paths and any disruptions.

Residents/concerned individuals may contact BAS from Monday to Sunday between 09.00 and 17.00 at 020 6015 555. Residents BAS sited also contains particulars of air traffic and manages email communications of requests and complaints associated with maintenance works.

For more information about the new air traffic and flight patterns, visit the BAS and SCHIPHOL websites.
